Lectures

One of the most important modern medicine and pharmacy events in Central-Eastern Europe was held on 4th and 5th of April in the International Congress Centre in Katowice. The yearly conference is organised by OSOZ Polska Magazine.

– The International OSOZ Congress is a meeting space for medical and pharmaceutical environment representatives as well as for the organisations of the healthcare market, politicians, scientists, doctors and nurses, managers of medical facilities, patients, companies operating in the sector, and students of medical universities. Participants discuss the challenges of healthcare digitalisation and e-health and they have the opportunity to see practical solutions implemented by the leaders of the market in Poland and Europe – says PhD, Eng. Zygmunt Kamiński, the President of KAMSOFT S.A. and the Director of the Science Committee of OSOZ.

Those who came to Poland at special invitation are involved in the digitalisation of health on a day-to-day basis. Experts such as Tobias Gantner (Healthcare Futurists), Brian O’Connor (European Connected Health Alliance), Ronald Petru (Radboud University Medical Center), Gisele Roesems-Kerremans (European Commission), Prof. Georger Crooks (NHS24). Prof. Marian Zembala, MD, Ph.D.(the Director of the Silesian Center for Heart Diseases in Zabrze), Michał Boni (European Parliament deputy), Łukasz Kołtowski (the Medical University of Warsaw) were among the participants of the discussion panel opening the Congress. The technological revolution in healthcare, which will change the way of communicating with a patient and managing health, was a predominant theme of the discussion. New technologies, including telemedical devices, health applications, wearable devices monitoring health condition, electronic health accounts, artificial intelligence systems and robotics, are the driver of changes. As it has been stressed on several occasions, digitalisation is a necessity and the only antidote to the grand challenges of modern healthcare, such as an ageing society, limited financial resources and the epidemic of non-infectious disorders related to lifestyle.

The digitalisation of healthcare in Poland is accelerating again. In 2017, the e-documentation, which – in line with the plan – will become obligatory in 2018, will constitute an important issue for healthcare facilities. Starting next year we will use electronic prescriptions, which is only the beginning of significant changes.

The Head Chamber of Nurses and Midwives, the Łazarski University, the Association of Healthcare Managers, Polish Hospital Federation, Young Medicine Managers and European Connected Health Alliance (ECHAlliance) organised their satellite sessions concerning the application of IT innovations in doctors’, nurses’ and managers’ everyday work. It was during the ECHAlliance session when the participants could see e-health initiatives and projects realised in different parts of Europe. Foreign guests presented the digitalisation strategies, regional initiatives, and examples of innovative ecosystems supporting modern medicine of the future.

The conference was accompanied by the so-called Science Zone, i.e. the exhibition of modern solutions in the healthcare.

Brian O Connor

Brian O’Connor (European Health Alliance) stressed the necessity of cooperation among various participants of the healthcare market, which makes it possible to reinforce the process of adapting e-health solutions.
